Theme:
“Saint Benedict and Pope Benedict: On the Good Zeal that Leads to Enternal Life" Directed by Fr. Gerard Gonda,
OSB, M.ED.
This retreat traces the
influence of the Rule of St. Benedict on the writings of Pope Benedict
who acknowledged his affinity to the patriarch of western monasticism
when he chose his name upon being elected to the papacy in 2005. The
focus of the conferences (an introduction and then two conferences for
each of the eight days) will be elements of spiritual life, in general,
and in particular, those elements most directly involved with living
community life in vows. Topics will include: Stability and Change,
Personal Relationship with Jesus, Obedience in Sacrifice and Humility,
Moderation and Patience, the Communion of Saints, a Healthy “Fear of the
Lord.” and worship, silence and listening, and loving when it is
difficult in union with Christ. Materials for reflection will be
provided.

Away to the Quiet” of Loyola
Retreat House. Hear God address you, rest with Scripture, and give
yourself to presentations and prayer. Enjoy the beautiful grounds,
woods, paths and gardens of Loyola.
Our retreat begins with registration on Sunday, June 20th at 5:00
p.m. with registration. Dinner will be served at 5:30 p.m. Departure on Sunday, June
27th at 10.00 a.m. (after Liturgy)
Cost: $400.00 per person, includes accommodations, meals and refreshments.

Our Presenter…
Fr. Gerard Gonda, OSB, M.Ed.
St. Andrew Abbey Cleveland, Ohio

Fr. Gerard is a Benedictine monk
and priest and has been the President of Benedictine High School in
Cleveland for the past two years. He was born in Cleveland and attended
St. Benedict Elementary School and Benedictine High School, graduating
in 1971. He attended St. John University in Collegeville, Minnesota and
John Carroll University where he received his B.A. in English in 1976.
He entered the Benedictine order after his sophomore year in college and
professed his monastic vows in 1974. He pursued theological studies at
St. Mary Seminary in Cleveland and was ordained a priest in 1980 by
Basil Cardinal Hume, OSB of Westminster, England.
Fr. Gerard joined the faculty of
Benedictine High School after ordination, teaching English and
Theology. He earned a Master’s Degree in Liturgical Studies from Notre
Dame University, South Bend, Indiana in 1983 and a Master’s Degree in
Educational Administration from Bowling Green State University in 1990.
In the school, he has served as Alumni Moderator, Student Council
Moderator, and Academic Dean before being named Principal in June,
1999. He served as Principal until 2005 and was named President of the
High School in 2008.
Fr. Gerard has given retreats and
talks for parishes, student groups, and religious communities in the
Diocese of Cleveland, in addition to other communities of religious
sisters in New Jersey, Michigan, Tennessee, Wisconsin, Illinois, North
Dakota, California and Ohio. For the past 29 years, he has assisted on
weekends at Holy Trinity Parish in Avon, Ohio.
