Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion - Lenten Evening of Reflection

Thursday, March 18, 2010
6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Theme: “The Real Meaning of Eucharist"
Presented by: Rev. William Karg - Pastor Emeritus at St. Sebastian Catholic Church, Akron, Ohio.

The Theme for the Lenten Evening of Reflection is "The Real Meaning of Eucharist."  Eucharist means thanksgiving in Greek. As we commemorate Jesus and reenact his Last Supper, we take bread and give thanks to God.  In the Eucharist, we are acknowledging the saving work done on the cross and return to God the sacrifice that is acceptable to him—praise and thanksgiving. Thanksgiving is our gift to God, symbolized by the bread and wine we offer to Him. Through the priestly action and by the power of the Holy Spirit, these species are transformed into the Real Presence of Christ—Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity.

Eucharist is a celebration of the mercy of God the Father who sent his son to suffer and die and rise again to redeem us from our sins. It was established by Christ to strengthen us with his grace, heal us in body, soul and spirit, and unite us in his love.

Our Catholic Tradition maintains the Eucharist is the “Source and Summit of our  lives.  As people entrusted to bring the Lord to others, Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion are called to a specific way of life and mission so they may become people of the Eucharist.

Please plan to join fellow Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion as you “Come Away to the Quiet” of Loyola Retreat House.  Cost for the evening, including dinner, is $22.00 per person. Registration 5:30 p.m.; Dinner will be served at 6:00 p.m.
